Alliance Tower Defense is built around a simple official loop: earn Coins in matches, spend Coins on Summon, and equip a team of units. The difficult part is deciding which unit belongs in each job. A rare name is not automatically useful if it arrives too late, costs more match cash than you can earn, or duplicates coverage you already have. Start by filling roles, then compare the units that can perform each role in your own account.

Evidence note: MrUpTime's Games confirms the match–Summon–team loop. Unit names, roles, obtainment routes, and balance observations below are community reported or community corroborated as of October 18, 2026. Exact damage, cooldowns, income, costs, and availability still need a live build check.

The four jobs every developing team needs

Affordable opening damage

A unit you can place immediately and fund through early waves. Community guides repeatedly use Camera Man for this job on Easy City. The important feature is affordability, not the color of the rarity label.

Community corroborated

Economy or resource support

A unit that improves the cash available for later placements. Scientist Camera Man is repeatedly described as an economy unit. It only helps when the rest of the team can survive while the investment grows.

Community reported

Coverage

A second damage profile for groups, range gaps, or enemies that slip past the first funnel. Coverage should solve a visible leak rather than add another expensive body with the same job.

Needs in-game testing

Late-wave anchor

The unit that receives most of your late match cash after the opening is stable. Titan Speaker Man 2.0 is a community-documented Mythic chase, but ownership alone does not guarantee that you can afford its full path during a match.

Community reported

A new account can progress with fewer than four distinct units because one affordable carry may cover several early jobs. Add roles when a repeatable failure tells you what is missing. If a lane fails before your first unit is upgraded, another expensive summon is unlikely to solve the timing problem.

Currently documented unit index

This is a known-unit decision index, not a claim that the roster is complete. Weekly updates, crates, events, the live Summon pool, and shop rotations can add or remove obtainment paths.

Spellings vary between pages and video titles. The live unit card is authoritative for Camera Man versus Cameraman, Speaker Man versus Speakerman, and numbered forms such as 2.0. Do not merge two inventory entries only because a guide normalizes the spacing.

How to judge a new unit without a stat sheet

Test the unit on a map you already understand. Easy City is useful because a familiar path removes one variable. Equip the new unit alongside a dependable carry, enter a one-player queue, and leave Auto Skip off while you learn its timing.

Record five things: placement cost, each upgrade cost, target count or visible coverage, attack rhythm, and the first wave where it changes the outcome. Those observations answer more than a single damage number. A unit with lower displayed damage can still be better if it attacks more often, reaches more of the path, or is affordable before the lane becomes dangerous.

Run one comparison at a time. Use the same map, difficulty, placement area, and skip setting. Fund Unit A to a chosen upgrade point, note the first leak, then repeat with Unit B. Changing the map and the team together produces a dramatic clip but a poor comparison.

Upgrade discipline beats roster size

Community walkthroughs consistently favor place, then max for the first Easy City clear. Spreading match cash across several unfinished units makes every placement weaker at the same time. Start with the unit that holds the funnel, complete the upgrades that keep the lane safe, then add the next role.

This principle matters even after you own a Mythic. A late anchor that cannot be placed or upgraded before the dangerous wave is not an opening unit. Keep an affordable carry equipped so the expensive unit has time to enter the match.

Economy units require the opposite kind of discipline. Place one only when the damage core can survive the investment period. If adding Scientist Camera Man causes an early leak, the answer may be later placement rather than abandoning economy forever.

Build teams by failure, not by rarity

If enemies leak before your carry reaches a stable upgrade, reduce the number of opening placements. If groups overwhelm one target at a time, add coverage. If late enemies survive after the opening is comfortable, direct more cash to a late anchor. If you cannot afford that anchor, improve economy or choose a cheaper completion path.

Use the tier list as a role priority, not a command to delete usable units. A B-role unit you can fully fund may outperform an S-role unit that stays at its first level. The right team is the one that clears your selected mode repeatedly with the account you actually have.

For multiplayer, agree on roles before the queue begins. Two players both saving for expensive units can leave the opening empty; two players both placing economy can do the same. One player should protect the first funnel while another prepares support or later coverage.

Obtaining units without inventing odds

The official Roblox description confirms that Coins are spent on Summon. It does not publish a complete pool, exact rarity rates, pity rules, or rotation schedule. Open the live Summon panel before spending, read every displayed rate and banner label, and use the summon calculator with the costs shown in your session.

Community sources also document Scientist Crates, shop units, a Spin Wheel, and event sources. Treat these as current only when the matching control exists in your lobby. Never assume a crate or wheel from another camera-themed tower-defense game exists here.

Do not chase one named unit with all of your Coins unless the live panel shows it can be obtained. Set a pull limit, preserve a farming reserve, and test each useful new unit before summoning again. Collection size is not the same as a functioning team.

Unit FAQ

What is the best Alliance Tower Defense unit?

There is no single best unit for every stage of a match. Camera Man is the clearest community-corroborated early carry, Scientist Camera Man fills an economy role, and Titan Speaker Man 2.0 is a reported late chase. Choose the missing job first.

Is Camera Man still useful after the tutorial?

Yes as a benchmark and affordable opening carry in current community walkthroughs. A later unit should replace it only when that unit improves the clear without breaking your early cash timing.

Are community stats safe to use?

Use them as a dated starting point, then read the live card and run a controlled map test. Balance values can change even when the unit name stays the same.

Does rarity guarantee a higher tier?

No. Rarity describes acquisition, while a tier should describe practical role value, affordability, and performance in the current mode.

Where were these roles checked?

The most detailed current references were the community unit indexes at alliancetowerdefense.wiki and alliance-tower-defense.wiki, checked October 18, 2026. Their exact numbers remain community data, not developer-published stats.
